City of Lake Worth
FEC Quiet Zone Became Effective on May 21, 2018
Mayor Pam Triolo

Quiet Zones are now in effect along the FEC rail corridor in West Palm Beach and Lake Worth, meaning both passenger and freight trains do not routinely blow horns. While the elimination of train horns except in emergencies will improve quality of life for surrounding communities, it is critical for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists to stay out of the rail corridor at all times except at designated crossings when gates are in the open position. Remember... See tracks? Think train!
The Palm Beach TPA provided funding for the supplemental safety measures (SSMs) required for Quiet Zone eligibility at the option of each local jurisdiction.
Quiet Zone status along the FEC rail corridor:
- West Palm Beach - implemented May 14
- Lake Worth - implemented May 21
- Boca Raton - scheduled for implementation on May 30
- Delray Beach - scheduled for implementation on June 7
- Lantana - the TPA is actively supporting Lantana's Notice of Establishment filing, to be followed by a required 21-day review period
- Boynton Beach - construction of more recently added supplemental safety measures will be completed within the next 2-3 months, after which a Notice of Establishment may be filed, to be followed by a required 21-day review period
- Northern Palm Beach County - TPA will fund and Brightline will construct supplemental safety measures to qualify for quiet zone eligibility to coincide with Brightline's Phase 2 service between West Palm Beach and Orlando.

The Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for Fiscal Years 2019-2023 was presented to the TPA Governing Board on May 17 for information and discussion. The TPA Governing Board will adopt a final TIP on June 21.
The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a staged program encompassing a five-year period consisting of all regionally significant transportation improvements to all modes of travel in Palm Beach County.
The TIP is updated annually and identifies projects for maintaining and improving the transportation system funded by Federal, State, and local sources.
The TIP is based on and reflects the Florida Dept. of Transportation's Work Program for Palm Beach County, and generally moves forward the projects in the time frame from previous TIPs.
