CAUTION! Quiet Zones Begin in West Palm Beach and Lake Worth

See Tracks, Think Train!Quiet Zones are being implemented as early as next week along the FEC rail corridor where Brightline trains are transporting passengers from downtown West Palm Beach to Ft. Lauderdale, and very soon to Miami.

The Palm Beach TPA provided funding for the supplemental safety measures (SSMs) required for Quiet Zone eligibility.

While Quiet Zones eliminate the routine blowing of train horns to improve quality of life for surrounding communities, it is critical for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists to stay out of the rail corridor at all times except at designated crossings when gates are in the open position.

See tracks? Think train!

Quiet Zone status:

  • West Palm Beach - effective as early as May 14
  • Lake Worth - effective May 21
  • Boca Raton - filed a Notice of Establishment (NOE) for a Quiet Zone with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) on May 8, to be followed by a 21-day review period
  • Construction of supplemental safety measures (SSMs) is complete in Palm Beach County's remaining coastal municipalities along the Brightline Phase 1 route, with the exception of Boynton Beach, where construction of recently added safety measures will be completed within the next 2-3 months
  • Other than Boynton Beach, the remaining municipalities are each eligible to file their NOEs with the FRA, to be followed by a 21-day review period
