Hurricane Preparedness Includes a Temporary Roundabout

On Saturday, May 30, the intersection of Okeechobee Boulevard and Jog Road was temporarily switched to a one-lane roundabout as part of a joint Palm Beach County and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) hurricane preparedness exercise. For six hours, the traffic signals were turned off and the temporary roundabout controlled traffic. The purpose was to test the safety and effectiveness of a temporary roundabout in the event the signalized intersection is impacted by a loss of power due to a hurricane.
