MPO Supports Popular SunFest Bike Valet
|
For the second year, the MPO partnered with the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) which has operated a free bike valet service during SunFest for the past eleven years. The MPO provided reflective backpacks and bike lights for bike valet users to promote safety and the MPO's BikePalmBeach.org as a resource for the local bicycling community. The MPO also provided shirts for the volunteers who kept several hundred bikes secure. Users enjoyed the convenience, security, and freedom from parking fees and traffic gridlock. Many have discovered that just getting to SunFest can be part of the fun of Florida's largest waterfront music and arts festival, attracting 175,000 people into downtown West Palm Beach over five days each spring.

Draft UPWP and Budget for Fiscal Years 2017-2018

For more information on the UPWP and to provide public comments, click here.
|
The Palm Beach MPO is seeking public review and comments for a period of 30 days leading up to adoption of a Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and Budget for Fiscal Years 2017 and 2018 by the MPO Governing Board on May 19, 2016. The UPWP serves as the MPO's business plan and budget for the upcoming two fiscal years beginning July 1, 2016. It is a statement of work identifying the planning priorities and activities to be carried out by the MPO. The UPWP includes a description of the planning work and resulting products, who will perform the work, time frames, costs and sources of funds. Federal sources provide 95% of the funding, with state and county funds making up the balance. |

Temporary Roadway Closures
Along the FEC Rail Corridor
Okeechobee Blvd.
(West Palm Beach)
Friday, May 13 8:00 PM - Tuesday,
May 17, 6:00 PM

Additional May closures are scheduled for additional locations in West Palm Beach, Lake Worth and Lantana.

grade crossing closures.

Pictured above is construction at a Delray Beach grade crossing earlier this month.
|
Multiple roadway closures are anticipated over the next several weeks - with most lasting four or five days - as All Aboard Florida continues Phase I construction for their new Brightline express passenger train service from Miami to West Palm Beach.
Supplemental safety infrastructure features funded by the MPO will be installed at grade crossings during these temporary road closures. This will enable local governments along the rail corridor to establish a continuous Quiet Zone from Broward County to West Palm Beach, to coincide with Brightline's new service projected to begin in 2017.
The Palm Beach MPO is committed to providing any necessary support to enable a continuation of the Quiet Zone through northern Palm Beach County when All Aboard Florida proceeds with Phase II construction to Orlando.
Quiet Zones are stretches of rail corridor where the routine blowing of train horns is not required for passenger or freight trains due to the installation of supplemental safety features at roadway crossings along the route.
