'The End of Automobile Dependence' Lecture - Aug. 9

Prolific author and local professor Peter Newman of the Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions at Florida Atlantic University will bring his North American Book Tour to West Palm Beach on Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 5:30-7:00 PM.

Co-authored with Jeffrey Kenworthy, his latest book is titled 'The End of Automobile Dependence: How Cities are Moving Beyond Car-Based Planning.' The lecture will be sponsored in partnership with the West Palm Beach DDA and the Palm Beach County Planning Congress and will be held at Palm Beach Dramaworks, 201 Clematis St., West Palm Beach.

Share Your Online Comments About Transit Research by Sep. 8

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is seeking online comments by Sep. 8 as input for a five-year research strategic plan that will set the stage for the types of research FTA should support to improve public transportation. FTA is also hosting an informational webinar at 3:30 pm on Thursday, Aug. 11, to maximize participation. Click to read more.  


Funding Opportunities from People For Bikes



People For Bikes has opened applications for a new effort called The Big Jump Project. They are looking for 10 great places to join this exciting new project - places where community leaders have ambitious plans to create safe and comfortable places to ride and encourage their neighbors and co-workers to give it a try. They want places that are eager to benchmark their progress and see the benefits of a big jump in biking in healthier people and better communities. FHWA Seeks Applications to Operate a National Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is seeking applications for financial assistance to result in the award of one Cooperative Agreement to operate a national pedestrian and bicycle information center; conduct pedestrian and bicycle research, tracking, and technical assistance activities. Funding availability: $3,125,000. Revised deadline: Aug. 23, 2016. Click for information.


MPO Transportation Photos Contest - Deadline Aug. 31


Professional and amateur photographers alike are encouraged to submit transportation photos of all travel modes in Palm Beach County. The MPO may use photo entries in future transportation documents or on the website and social media. Click for details. 



MPO Staff Training

  • Palm Beach MPO staff members Kevin Fischer and Malissa Booth participated in civil rights training on Title VI and nondiscrimination, including requirements for recipients of federal funds to have implementation plans to bring their streets and public areas into compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). The training was held on Aug. 4 at the Broward MPO in Ft. Lauderdale, and was conducted by staff members from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Florida Dept. of Transportation (FDOT). Kevin Fischer serves as the Long Range Transportation Plan Coordinator. Public Information Officer Malissa Booth additionally serves as the Title VI & ADA Officer. 
  • Palm Beach MPO Executive Director Nick Uhren and Bike-Ped-Transportation Demand Management Coordinator Franchesca Taylor participated in a Pedestrian Road Safety Audit Workshop at FDOT in Ft. Lauderdale on Aug. 3-4.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Team - Final Meeting
