MPO Bike Suitability Maps Available for Distribution

The MPO is seeking your help to appropriately distribute 15,000 copies of folded maps designed to indicate the suitability of Palm Beach County roadways for bicyclists. The map includes the bicycle level of service (BLOS) for roads within the county. The BLOS is a calculation of how comfortable a bicyclist may feel on a particular roadway based on roadway speeds, traffic volumes and the amount of space provided for bicyclists to operate. Bicyclists should remain alert for hazardous conditions at all times. Every bicyclist is encouraged to obtain appropriate safety equipment and observe all traffic laws.

View or download the new MPO map at www.BikePalmBeach.org, which is a website resource of the MPO to provide convenient access to information for the local bicycling community. Alternately, you may click the BikePalmBeach.org icon in the center bar of the MPO's website at PalmBeachMPO.org

    Safety is Golden Mobility Fair

The Palm Beach MPO was among exhibitors actively reaching out to seniors during Older Driver Safety Awareness week at FDOT's Safety is Golden Mobility Fair. The event was held Dec. 6 at the Volen Center in Boca Raton. Local and state mobility and transportation experts shared resources with older adults on topics ranging from the impacts of aging on driving, and planning for future mobility needs.

The MPO conducted a survey among attendees to determine the extent to which they drive; their use of transit or driving alternatives; how well our transportation system meets their current needs; and their concerns for the future. Multiple people who took the survey are still driving in their 90s.

Top photo: Attendees respond to the MPO survey with assistance from MPO staff members Alexa Sanabria (left) and Malissa Booth (not pictured).

Bottom photo: MPO Chair and Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie and MPO Governing Board Member and Boca Raton Councilman Robert Weinroth were on hand to welcome exhibitors and attendees.

WGI Density & Mobility Event

The MPO participated in an exciting event hosted by WGI to engage local developers, business leaders and governmental leaders in exploring the relationship between density and mobility.

MPO Executive Director Nick Uhren participated as a panelist in a discussion about land use impacts on mobility and how the community can influence transportation priorities.

MPO Public Information Officer Malissa Booth and MPO Planner Tim Verbeke participated as exhibitors for the breakfast event held on Nov. 30. Click to view the video.

Public Transit Day

Public Transit Day on Dec. 9 was promoted throughout southeast Florida as a day to encourage everyone, including elected officials and community leaders, to take transit and share their experiences on social media using #PublicTransitDay.

Palm Beach Post Transportation reporter Kristina Webb (in blue) took her first Palm Tran ride along with MPO Executive Director Nick Uhren (left), Palm Tran Executive Director Clinton Forbes, and MPO Transit Coordinator Valerie Neilson (front). Kristina also commuted by Tri-Rail later in the day, and reported on her favorable experience in the Palm Beach Post. Click for the article.

MPO Staff Members Give Back

MPO staff members participated in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program this holiday season by donating gifts for two less fortunate children in our community.

On Dec. 15, MPO Bike-Ped Coordinator Franchesca Taylor (left) and MPO Secretary Alexa Sanabria delivered all of the gifts on the children's wish lists.

The entire staff of the Palm Beach MPO wishes you a joyous and safe holiday season, and looks forward to your participation in improvements for Palm Beach County's transportation system in 2017.
