MPO Complete Streets Design Guidelines Adopted

Complete Streets Design Guidelines

After adopting a Complete Streets Policy in early 2016, the MPO Governing Board adopted its Complete Streets Guidelines on Oct. 19, 2017. The document is a product of an MPO ad-hoc committee that met regularly since early 2016.

The goals were to develop a context sensitive design framework and typical sections; provide local practitioners with design guidance; emphasize multimodal safety and mobility; and connect with FDOT Complete Streets implementation including a context classification guide and new FDOT Design Manual.

University Commuter Challenge - Nov. 6-17

The goal of the Florida Dept. of Transportation's South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS) program is to reduce congestion and improve traffic conditions by encouraging modes of transportation other than driving alone. Along with their transportation partners, SFCS is challenging university students throughout southeast Florida to use an alternate mode of transportation during the 2017 University Commuter Challenge. A mobile app has been launched which will allow participants to easily log their trips, as well as track the real-time cost savings and environmental impact of their alternative mode use. The app will collect data critical to analyzing current transportation systems and programs. Local institutions participating in the University Commuter Challenge include Florida Atlantic UniversityPalm Beach Atlantic University, and Palm Beach State College.

Flagler Shore: From Pavement to People

Flagler Shore - West Palm Beach

Walk, rent a SkyBike, or hang out in paradise!
Enjoy the temporary street closure of Flagler Drive's eastern traffic lanes until March 1, 2018.

After preliminary results of a mobility study showed that opening up more space for people to walk and ride bikes along Flagler Drive would be beneficial, the Flagler Shore project was recently launched by the City of West Palm Beach, the West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency and the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority. Vehicular traffic has been blocked from half of the waterfront traffic lanes until next March, where street furniture, umbrellas, and people have replaced cars. For details go to WPB.org/FlaglerShore.
