New I-95 Interchange Opens at Spanish River Blvd.

I-95 interchange at Spanish River Blvd. Ribbon Cutting 2-28-2018

After four years of construction - and nearly twenty years in the making - the final ramp of a new I-95 interchange at Spanish River Blvd. opened after a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 28. Ceremony speakers included Boca Raton Mayor and Palm Beach TPA Chair Susan Haynie, and Palm Beach County Commissioner and Palm Beach TPA Governing Board Member Steve Abrams.

The Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency worked collaboratively with FDOT to prioritize funding for this new interchange to both alleviate traffic congestion on Glades Road and Yamato Road and to provide direct access to Florida Atlantic University (FAU). The project will improve quality of life for individuals, enhance the local economy, and increases accessibility to educational opportunities at FAU and the adjoining campus of Palm Beach State College.

Approximately 200,000 motorists travel this area daily, and are already experiencing positive results from the project, which includes multiple ramps that have opened over the past few months:

• Traffic congestion has been reduced for residents and visitors. Thousands of students, area workers, and local residents already experience shorter daily commutes.

• Regional travelers along I-95 through southern Palm Beach County have increased access to local amenities, as this fifth interchange is now available to serve Boca Raton.

• This multimodal project includes additional connectivity for the expanded El Rio Trail, a very popular pedestrian and bicycle thoroughfare, which has been extended under Yamato Rd. This will improve safety for all users in support of the TPA’s and FDOT’s Vision Zero campaign to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries on our transportation system.
